Middle
Awash archaeological research is aimed at understanding human behavior
through time. This research involves the analysis of early
hominid technology, land use, and subsistence patterns. The
study area presents the longest record of hominid technological
change on earth, spanning the entire range of hominid technology
during the last 2.5 million years. Stone tools belonging
to the Oldowan, developed Oldowan, and a range of Acheulean, Middle
Stone Age, and Late Stone Age archaeological technologies have
been identified.
